glorious

On Friday we packed buckets, shovels and snacks, and went up Provo canyon to a park with grass, sun, shade and water all within the same acre. It's one of my favorite spots. We met up with cousins and had ourselves a genuine, bonafide, summer afternoon. Squísh, who is old enough to walk through the water now, would start to whimper almost every time. "Mama! It's cold! It's cold! It's COOOOLD!" And then I'd rescue her with one arm, because I was holding Em in the other. (...And Em prefers it that way, thankyouverymuch.) We spent a couple hours - and it felt like five minutes.

It's hard to imagine these pirates ever growing up. It seems like they'll be these ages forever... and as much as I'd love that, logic tells me they're going to grow up before I'm ready. (Eight years has already flown past at the rate of FAST AS BLAZES.) I have to remind myself almost every hour - to remember and love these days - when my pirates are small, and happy with buckets, water, cousins and sun.

  1. That looks like so much fun! And I bet, although other things will share the stage, your pirates will always love buckets, water, cousins and sun. The apples don't fall far from the tree:)
