A loooong time ago my grandma visited our family in Ohio. (I think I was six.) We took her to the park with us and then watched in complete awe as she aced the monkey bars from start to finish. That school year I remember bragging to several friends, "My grandma can do the monkey bars!" So on Saturday when she sat herself down on my mom's tree swing- and let it fly- I shouldn't have been surprised... but I was. I love her for it. "Robs," I said later, "DO YOU KNOW what your great-grandma can do?"
(Flying grandma.)
(five of my mom's ten siblings)
(cousins who grew up rrrrreeeallly fast / Dad imparting sage wisdom...)
(Dave serving cake / Grandma waiting...)
(Squish's best friend eating cake)
(cousins playing in the grass / swinging on the swing)
(cousins! / cousins!)
(my beautiful grandma / family is the best)
(trying to get on the swing / waiting for everyone to finish talking...)
(Oh look. A lovely little angel...)
(Grandma and my mom's beloved aunt / Squish gathering life wisdom...)
On Saturday five of my mom's ten siblings came to celebrate my grandma's birthday. Everyone brought their assorted spouses, children, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins... It was fun to see my mom's side of the family, but it was really fun to see how excited my mom was. Living closer to her family is one of those things she's always wanted- but never had, until now.
Happy Birthday Grandma!
Wow. I love this. This should be a book.
