synchrony

We're coming up on three years of living in this house. Which is crazy. But after three years of living in the same place (it's a first for our almost ten years of marriage) I've noticed there are certain things that happen every year. For example: Every summer, towards the end of August, there is one part of our lawn that dies. I've tried watering, reseeding, adding more dirt and fertilizing, but nothing works. After the second year, I decided to be okay with it. Every spring there are these gorgeous white crocuses that pop up in our side yard, and I love them. Every winter we get a giant puddle at the end of our driveway, because this slab of ice blocks any melting snow. And every fall, when it starts to get dark at 5:15ish, the pirates remove the couch cushions. A couple years ago, they'd remove them to play "gymnastics." I have adorable videos of their tiny tumbles and celebrations when they actually did what they'd planned on doing. (Instead of pellmelling it off the ottoman.) But this year, it's "flying." Erik pushes the ottoman as far as he can from the couch. (Squísh votes to keep it a little closer.) ...They line the approach with cushions, and go for it.

(Squísh votes to keep it a little closer.) ...They line the approach with cushions, and go for it. Over and over and over. It's awesome. Erik has skills.

They get worn out after a while though, and then move onto basketball in the basement or hide-and-seek all over the house. Sometimes Robs moves onto reading. Or drawing. And to be completely honest, a lot of the time they move on to complete and total chaos. (It's part of our winter regimen.)

I like the change of scenery and adventure that comes with new places.

But I like this rhythm too.
