serendipity

A couple days ago, I'd had it. Both kids were screaming, the house was a disaster, and my brain was mush. Tale as old as time as far as two kids go: when one was ready to get outside, the other was ready for a nap. So as a last possible resort and a final attempt to regain (or perhaps find) some sort of meaning to the chaotic mess that has become my everyday life... I did what I've needed to do for quite some time.

I dropped everything.

I threw a couple diapers and wipes in the stroller, grabbed a sippy cup for Robs and we took off. You may have heard us as we ran. Enrique was wailing at the top of his lungs.

But it seems like when you reach the breaking point, and throw your hands up in a mixture of hopelessness and exasperation... something magical happens and things begin to work out.

After a couple blocks, Enrique stopped screaming and fell asleep. Robs started looking around and pointing out the squirrels... and I slowly started to feel a bit like myself again.

The bridge turned out to be a hidden treasure and is atleast two times more fun than it looks. Four times as much if you're only two feet tall. Add a stroller, a run, and a quick stop at the park and you get a serendipitous mixture of "just what we needed." For a quick moment, life was quite perfect.

  1. Good for you! Sometimes you really do just need to drop everything and I think I forget that sometimes!

  3. Been there. Leaving the house is just the ticket sometimes. I love leaving my adult responsibilities behind as I join my children's world for an afternoon. So relaxing. Love the pictures. Did you use your new 50mm?

  4. I have to agree, the days that we don't make it to a park or somewhere to play are rough...for me :) Sounds like everyone ended up having a good day in the end. Loving the pictures.

  7. I'm glad that someone I look up to so much (you!) has days when the only remedy is quick and immediate escape into the outdoors. Perfect medicine. On a side note, I was digging through some old photos and found a picture of you, me and Amber, taken at night, in the middle of a giant snow drift. Judging by our maniac expressions and disheveled appearance it looks like we clearly experienced one of those days and had escaped outside as well, in the middle of the night no less. I wish I could remember the story associated with the picture - I'm sure it had to do with a dumb boy. So glad that's over! I'll take grumpy kids over dumb boys any day!
