We're trying.
Honestly. We really are.
Today I caught someone's eye at church.
We were headed to class, but I went to introduce myself.
I said "Hi!"
She said:
"You're the one who's here for six months, right?"
Yes. I am that one.
And then I introduced my husband, also here for six months.
And my daughter and my son, who... believe it or not: Are only here for six months.
We passed small talk back and forth.
She has two children. (Aha! So do we!)
A girl and a boy, (Even better!)
Very close in age to our boy and girl. (Voila! Let there be friendship!)
And then the conversation ended.
Not to be revived any time this week.
Apparently, if you're only here for six months, you don't qualify for friends.
But there's always next week.
Perhaps I will have to try harder.
Isn't it just amazing?? You wouldn't believe it, but I have had the same type of conversation a couple of months ago. Even after seeing her several Sundays since we have moved here, I waved to her from my car the other day and she gave me a courtesy wave and looked behind her to see if it was meant for someone else because she didn't recognize me. It's awesome. They are missing out and you are awesome friends! their loss!! we miss ya! (record long post for me hahaha)
ReplyDeleteWhat is these people's deal?!?
ReplyDeleteAs awful as it sounds, I do that sometimes. We live in an area that gets a lot of people who are just here for a short time and I get tired of making friends with people, liking them a whole lot, and then having to say goodbye. No excuse, I know, but my lil heart can only take so much! I got all excited because I met someone at church on Sunday who will be here for 3-5 years! Now that's longevity!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry Christine, they don't know what they're missing out on!
ReplyDeletetry telling them your only here for 4 months. I have one girl here that took me to a play group, and hasn't really talked to me since, I can't decide if i'm just a compassionate service project or not. Oh well right, we still have michigan!!lol
ReplyDeleteI think you should bear your testimony next month and say that you LOVE the ward so much that you've decided to live there permanently. You'll have friends by the end of the week! :)
